JODIE BLANEY
About Jodie Blaney
Local Ladner artist Jodie Blaney creates expressive, joy-filled paintings inspired by the landscapes of British Columbia. Working with acrylic paints on canvas, her forests, mountains, and shorelines are imaginative works that are defined by vivid colour, rhythmic composition, and simplified, flowing shapes.
Each piece evokes a sense of movement and immersion while maintaining a strong sense of harmony and balance. For over 15 years, Jodie’s artwork has been collected in Canada and abroad. Process: Jodie begins a new painting in several different ways. She often works on a black primed canvas or on a canvas primed with vivid, colourful underglazes. In both approaches, the first layers are allowed to peek through the final painting. The effect often resembles mosaic with strong forms and shapes and distinct outlines. Her crisp edges and distinct shapes are created through careful brushwork.
